Turn a Qwen Image 2.1 image into a video

Qwen Image 2.1 is an image model — it does not generate video by itself. But you can design a frame with Qwen Image 2.1 and then animate it with one of the image-to-video models in the same workspace. Here is the workflow.

Start with a Qwen Image 2.1 frame

In short

  • Qwen Image 2.1 makes still images; video uses separate, clearly named video models.
  • Generate or edit the opening frame with Qwen Image 2.1 first.
  • Animate it in the video workspace with an image-to-video model.
  • Each video model shows its own duration options and credit price.

Step 1: design the opening frame

Compose the image the way the first frame of the video should look: one clear subject, room to move, consistent light.

Frame prompt
A paper lantern floating above a calm night lake, warm glow reflected in the water, wide composition with empty sky above, soft mist.

Step 2: animate it

Download the image, open the video workspace, choose an image-to-video model and upload the frame. Describe the motion relative to what is in the picture — "the lantern drifts slowly upward, ripples spread across the water, camera holds still".

Tips for smoother motion

  • Avoid text in the frame; it rarely survives animation cleanly.
  • Ask for one motion and a simple camera move.
  • Use a longer duration for slow, natural movement.
  • Compare video models; each lists its own options and price.
